# Trees built from your own schematics

> Grow trees from WorldEdit .schem or structure .nbt files, picked and turned at random, with replace to swap vanilla logs and leaves for your own blocks.

A [tree](https://items.lodemc.net/flora/trees.md) with `schematics:` is built from your own builds instead of being made up. Each time it grows, one schematic is picked at random and turned to a random direction. Save the tree with WorldEdit (`.schem`) or a vanilla structure block (`.nbt`) and put the file next to the YAML.

```yaml items/flora/willow/willow.yml theme={null}
big_willow:
  type: flora
  tree:
    sapling: willow_sapling
    schematics: [willow_1.schem, willow_2.schem, willow_3.nbt]
    replace:                      # build with vanilla blocks, grow with yours
      oak_log: willow_log
      oak_leaves: willow_leaves
```

A schematic tree takes no `log`, `leaves` or [shape settings](https://items.lodemc.net/flora/procedural-trees.md): its blocks come from the schematics.

## Options

**schematics** `list` *required*

`.schem` files (WorldEdit, Sponge format versions 2 and 3) or `.nbt` structure files. Air and structure voids in them are skipped, so they never clear what's already there.

**replace** `map`

Blocks to swap as the tree is placed, as `from: to`. This lets you build real trees out of oak logs and leaves and have them grow as your own blocks. The left side is a block as the schematic has it (a bare name means `minecraft:`). The right side is your block or a vanilla one, without properties: the schematic's are kept, so a sideways log stays sideways.

**origin** `x,y,z`

The block in the schematic that goes where the sapling was. By default, the lowest log nearest the middle (blocks ending in `_log`, `_wood`, `_stem` or `_hyphae`, counting what `replace` turns them into).

## Not yet supported

* Litematica `.litematic` files.
