# config.yml

> Every setting in plugins/LodeItems/config.yml.

Your content lives in `items/`. `config.yml` only holds server-wide settings.

> [!NOTE]
>
> `config.yml` is read when the server starts. **Restart the server after changing it.** `/lodeitems reload` re-reads `items/`, not this file.

## pack

See [Resource pack](https://items.lodemc.net/resource-pack.md) for how these fit together.

| Setting | Default | Does |
| - | - | - |
| `pack.required` | `false` | Disconnects players who decline the pack. |
| `pack.prompt` | `"<gray>This server uses custom items..."` | The message on the pack screen. MiniMessage. |
| `pack.host.enabled` | `true` | Serves the pack from LodeItems' built-in web server. |
| `pack.host.port` | `8163` | Its port. Must be reachable from the internet. |
| `pack.host.public-address` | `""` | The address players download from. Empty means the address they joined with. |
| `pack.url` | `""` | Your own download URL. Only used when `host.enabled` is `false`. |
| `pack.s3.*` | off | Upload to S3 or a compatible service. See [S3](https://items.lodemc.net/resource-pack.md#hosting). |
| `pack.merge` | `[]` | Other packs to merge in: folders or zips, relative to `plugins/`. |
| `pack.optional` | `{}` | Packs players can turn on and off with `/packs`. |

## items

| Setting | Default | Does |
| - | - | - |
| `items.update` | `true` | Rebuilds players' copies of an item when its config changes. See [Keeping items up to date](https://items.lodemc.net/item-mechanics.md#keeping-items-up-to-date). |

## armor

| Setting | Default | Does |
| - | - | - |
| `armor.3d-distance` | `48` | [3D armour](https://items.lodemc.net/armor.md#3d-armour) is drawn in 3D up to this many blocks away; beyond it, it is worn flat. |

## blocks

| Setting | Default | Does |
| - | - | - |
| `blocks.slots` | `1000` | Solid custom block states the server reserves at startup. |
| `blocks.transparent-slots` | `200` | The same for see-through blocks. |
| `blocks.passable-slots` | `100` | The same for walk-through blocks. |
| `blocks.sounds` | `true` | Plays the right sounds for custom blocks (see below). |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Never lower a slot count below what you use: placed blocks in the removed slots disappear. See [How many blocks](https://items.lodemc.net/blocks.md#how-many-blocks).

`blocks.sounds`: solid custom blocks look like note blocks or mushroom blocks to players' games, which would play wood sounds for them. With this on, the pack silences wood sounds and the server plays every wood sound itself, plus each custom block's own `sounds:`. Players hear the same as in vanilla.

## elements

Settings for [elements](https://items.lodemc.net/elements.md) such as props. Servers set up before the rename have this section as `furniture:`, which still works.

| Setting | Default | Does |
| - | - | - |
| `elements.preview` | `true` | Shows a see-through copy where a prop would go while sneaking with it: green if it fits, red if not. Only that player sees it. A prop can turn it off for itself with `preview: false`. |
| `elements.preview-opacity` | `0.5` | How see-through the preview is: `1` is solid. |
| `elements.culling.enabled` | `true` | Hides elements players can't see because walls are in the way, so their game doesn't draw them. |
| `elements.culling.interval` | `5t` | How often that is checked. |
| `elements.culling.max-distance` | `96` | How far away elements are checked. |
| `elements.culling.always-visible` | `6` | Elements closer than this many blocks are never hidden. |
| `elements.culling.margin` | `1.5` | An element counts as visible once the space this many blocks around it is. |
| `elements.culling.hide-after` | `6` | Checks in a row an element has to be out of sight before it's hidden. |

Culling errs towards showing elements: it also looks from where the player is heading, so pieces don't pop into view as players walk around corners.
